Dr. Leah Ramos founded Eastern Virginia Eye Associates in 2003 with a vision of creating an eye care practice where clinical excellence and an exceptional patient experience were equally important.

Born into a military family and raised in Hampton Roads, Dr. Ramos is a graduate of Norfolk Academy and the University of Virginia. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University following clinical training that included the Beverly Hills Laser and Vision Institute in California, Newington Veterans Hospital in Connecticut, and Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat in North Carolina.

Over more than two decades in practice, Dr. Ramos has had the privilege of caring for multiple generations of patients and families. That continuity of care—and the relationships built along the way—remains one of the aspects of optometry she values most. Under her leadership, EVEA has grown from a traditional primary eye care practice into a comprehensive medical eye care center offering advanced services in ocular surface disease, myopia management, specialty contact lenses, and medical aesthetics. Dr. Ramos is also laser certified in Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI), and YAG Capsulotomy.

Dr. Ramos has also devoted significant attention to the patient experience and practice leadership. She is a graduate of the Disney Institute and has completed advanced business and management education designed to bring exceptional service principles into healthcare. Her community involvement includes serving with the Seashell Sisters Chapter of National Charity League, and past service on the Norfolk Academy Alumni Board and the CHKD Future Generations Board.

Outside of the office, Dr. Ramos enjoys traveling, fitness, and spending time with her family. She and her husband, Dr. Shane Swatts,live in Chesapeake with their two daughters and family dog. She believes that maintaining physical, mental, and personal well-being allows her to bring her best to her family, her team, and her patients.
